OBITUARY.
MR. W. H. JACKMAN. {By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAPAROA, this day. Mr. \V. H. Jackznan, one of the earliest settlers in Whakapirau, passed away on Tuesday, aged 77. He came to the Dominion at the age of 19, settling shortly after at Whakapirau, where he had resided ever since. He was many year* farming and subsequently began business as a general storekeeper. He was also a successful vinegrower, riding representative on Otamatea County Council, and county chairman. He also served on local bodies previous to the formation of Otamatea County. At the Parlia-. mentary election in 18S6, he contested the Waitemata seat with the late Mr.R. Monk, being defeated in a close contest. He was active in the Anglican .Church, being for many years lay reader and vestryman and was widely known through North Auckland. He is survived by a widow and two daughters, Mrs. H. C. Hemphill (Whangarei), Mrs. J. Milne (Waiuku), and four sons, Messrs. Guy, Joseph, George and Eric Jackman, of. Whakapirau.
