STOLE WIDOW'S BROOCH.
SPENT MONEY ON TAXIS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. A tall gaunt man named Lechmore Mem was charged before Mr. Young.. S.M., to-day, with the theft of a brooch, the property of a widow, Violet Lucy Quinn, with whom he boarded, and who valued the small piece of jewellery at £130. Mrs. Quinn said she kept the brooch in a bag under her daughter's jbed. Accused sold the article to a fishmonger for £15, which money he said he spent on beer, taxis and medical expenses. He was committed for sentence.
