HAMILTON LAKE.

STEPS FOR -PRESERVATION. LAXT) TO BE TAKEN". CBt Tele£raph.~-Own Correspondent.! HAMILTON, this day. According to Mr. -T. B. Thompson. Under-Secretary for Lands, all the information relative to the Government takig an area of land on the Frankton side of the Hamilton Lake for domain purposes, has Ibeen forwarded to the Public Works Department, and the necessary action to resume tlie land would doubtless tbe taken by the department as soon as possible.

The land is an area of about 67 acres, which the owners. Messrs. Hannah and Paterson, of Auckland, some time ago. proposed to drain, and as such drainage would dotrbtless have the effect of lowering the surface of the lake, the Domain Board negotiated for the purchase of the land. As no satisfactory arrangement could ibe come to, however, the Government was asked to take land under the Public Works Act, for domain purposes, and legislation was included in the Washing Up Bill of last session authorising the Public Works Department to take the land. Mr. Thompson's statement was made in answer to representations made by Mr. J. A. Young, M.P., on behalf of the Domain Board.
