THE PRINCIPAL PORTS. AUCKLAND LEADS IN VESSELS. 810 LEAD IN CARGO TONNAGE. 'The shipping statistics of the Dominion for the four chief ports for the nine months ending September 30 show that during the nine months the total number of vessels, both overseas and coastal, entering Auckland was 5632. of a net tonnage of 1,562.772 tons, and of these. 306 were overseas vessels with a total net tonnage of 1,051,209 tons. in the case of Wellington the. total for the nine months wan 2199 vessels (net. tonnage 2,231,008 tons), the number of overseas vessels being 311, of 1,266,367 tons net. The total number of arrivals at Lyttelton was 1210 (net tonnage. 1,429,357 tons); and the number of overseas vessels 185 (751.355 tons). At Port Otago the total number of arrivals was 413 (711,117 tons), and the number of overseas vessels 149 (553,191 tons). Total for Dominion, 18.244 vessels (9,540,466 tons), as against 16.307 vessels (8,497,181 tons) in the corresponding period of 1922. In the case of the departures during the nine months the overseas vessels are not differentiated from the coastal vessels. For the four chief ports the total number of, vessels departing, together with their net tonnage, were as under: — Net Vessels. Tonnage.
