PIANOFORTE RECITAL.
Before a moderate attendance of student* and lovers of the pianoforte, lire. Annie Morris gave a very enjoyable pianoforte .„,»„! !„ tho I'mirart ("Mmmher of the Town
Hall last evening- A pruisnunine consistin" of ten solos, culled from tile master writers or' (the instrument, was presented, and in every item Mrs. Morris showed aha h-id the skill and knowledge to exhibit the music in a way which presented the author's intention. The pianist opened with Bach'a I'raeludiiini xriii., whertin the performpr displayed .1 tender t.iiu-n. and admirably exhibited the charm and character of tlis solos. Chopin's "Scherzo Op. '2V received v brilliant performance. T'ne crashing dissonant chords of the opening were executed with tine weight and power and the subsequent section was played with a. whirl of stormy impulse. Tie Agitato was executed rapidly, its intricacies being easily overcome A nice leparn tftyle was rtisplayeil in the reading of the "Motto l"iv Lento " the soloist terminating the masterpiece with :i briliiam delivery of the ascendinjr c'hromntlc octaves, nnd full harmouips of the finale. Beethoven's "Rondo a C.ipricrio Op. 120" was performed with clftau and resolute finder work, and crisp and clearly denned (hording In the left-hand. In rhe Trauculllo the part playing was specially pleasing, the independence of the
M-par.-ite voices ns well marked, and rho melodic and rhythmical imitations were rlenrly defined. Brnhm's Sonata Op. r, received a masterly renderine. and Op. 10. No. X and Op. 4 were expressed in a thoroughly sympathetic Rtyle. Liszt's "WfildesrrLuschen" and "Onomenreigei)'* were effectively performed and. Scharwenka'a •■Staccato Etude" was played with good bravura crispaess and facility. An enjoyable recital terminated with a musirianiy performance of Schumann's Carnival Op. f». After eacli solo the pianist was deservedly warmly recalled.
