H.M.S. DUNEDIN
RENAMED NEW ZEALAND. FOR N.Z. STATION. (By Cable.—Press Association. —C"prrlphr.v (Received 10.30 a.ml LONDON, October 4. H.M.s. Dunedin has been renamed New Zealand, and will replace H.M.s. Chatham on the New Zealand Station. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.) The Dunedin is a light cruiser of 4651 tons displacement of the Chatham class, but of a much later design, and is an oil-burner. She is equipped with sis 6-inch guns, and has a ship's complement of about 430 men.
The Dunedin is one of the new light cruisers built shortly after the outbreak of war, among them being the Canterbury, which was referred to by Sir John Jellicoe in his dispatch on the battle of Jutland.
