PROPERTY AND PROGRESS.

PROM AGENTS AND OTHERS. The following advertisement is taken from an Auckland paper published in 1863:— " To Small Capitalists.—Good building allotments, situated on the Karangahape Road, Newton Road, Wellington Street, Napier Street, Franklyn Street, Collingwood Street, Anglesea Street, and Hepburn Street, on terms liberal and easy.

Sections in Remuera are high-priced. Some land in Upland Road can be bought for £16 to £17 per foot. Much higher prices have-been given in other streets. During the last twelve months nine shops have been built on Remuera Road, near Victoria Avenue, and seven more are under way. These will be- at the corner of Victoria Avenue. Other business premises are to be built at the corner of Clonbern Road. Eight shops are being built at the Remuera tram terminus. Extensive alterations are to be made to Watson's Buildings, Queen Street. Two additional storeys are to be added, making the block five-storeyed. The building is to be remodelled and renovated. The cost is estimated at £25,000. Much money is squandered unnecessarily in subdivisions. Roads are made according to plans; then the roads are picked up again for the water, and again for the gas, and again for the sewers. There is no end of expense, and this is all loaded on to the land. CURRENT QUOTATIONS.
