Our illustration shows the harbour and old citadel at the en ranee to the bay on which the town of Corfu is situated. It was this point which was mainly the target of the gu .;, _. vie Meet, aiaiougn the admiral was aware that the old fortress mounted nothing more formidable than a signal cun. Bathing at this point—presumably on the beach shown at the base of the citadel —were at the time of the cowardly bombardment some four hundred refugee children.
