THE ONE TREE HILL AREA.
PROTEST FROM SOUTHERN SECTION. The residents of One Tree Hill Road District on the southern side —that adjacent to Onehunga—are adverse to 'I being included in the proposed borough, a poll in connection with which is to be held on Wednesday. A petition set- ' j tint; out their grounds of objection was lodged some time ago with the Minister of Internal Affairs and received a reply that the subject would receive consideration when the question of the formation of a borough had been decided by I poll. It is asserted that the southern I ratepayers suffer from several injustices. I For one thing, while they are charged 1/ per 1000 gallons for water supplied !by Onehunpra they are rated for a. 1020 loan of £5800 for laying pipes in their district, a work which has not I yet been carried out. A special drain- | age rate also ia charged although the I district is not within the drainage area. I What the petitioners fear is the exI tended powers that a borough COIMCII enjoys, and that their burden would inevitably be increased for small benefit. It baa been suggested that this por- ! tion, abutting a 3 it does on Onellunga, , might be incorporated in that borough, but an objection is raised to that aISO mainly because the system of rating on unimproved values is in force in Unehunga. What the residents want is tne constitution of a separate road district Incidentally they point out that tne lmrdens of One "Tree Hill are in their opinion very appreciably increased by ■ n undervaluation of the property of i }he Auckland Trotting Club's grounds.
