• The Rome newspapers report the discovery of tho eearlet fever bacillus by two Italian doctors, Dr. di Crislina. director of the children's hospital at | Palermo, and Dr. Caronia, director ol j the children's hospital at Romp. The doctors are sending records of cases in which the disease bus been | warded oIT by injections of serum to [ all hospitals and schools.—Keuter. Tins report, if substantiated, means ; that another important chapter is nowadded to the history of successful medical research. Doctors all over the , world have for many years been at I '■ work trying to find the bacillus | which causes scarlet fever. The most recent reports dealt with * the researches of Dr. David Thomson. ; of the Pickett Thomson Research Laboratory connected with St. Paul's Hospital. ' I Dr. Thomson announced at the annual ' meeting of the hospital povernors on May 23 this year that he had found two new germs in samples of bncilli from the throats of patients suffering from ! both scarlet fever and measles, and | stated that he considered it likely that ! these perms were the causes of the.! diseases. It wns decided to inoculate ' monkeys with them in order to find out I definitely. Tn IDI4 Dr. Mnir. a Scottish specialist. ' announced in London that he had found j n micro-coous which ho believed to he j "the infective agent in scarlet fever." [
