LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL. CITY V. ATHLETICS. The great attraction in I-eajrue football to-morrow afternoon will lie tlie meeting, at I'aria w Park, of City and Athletic teams in a clash for the championship. City have to win tbe game to prevent Athletics being" the champions of the year, and they are confident that they will be able to do so. despite the fact that the game has gone against them in previous meetings. A win by < ity would place the two teams on an equality so far as points are concerned, and that would mean n play-off for the championship, a position that Athletics are determined shall not arise. Whatever the result, the game is Uvund to be a first-class one. As a. curtain-raiser Devonport will play ilarists. and on Xo. 2 ground Richmond and l'onsonby will meet. The teams are : — CITY. A letter was received from the English Northern I'n'.ou definitely accepting New Zealand's invitation to visit the Domlniou in HC-l, but staling that they will tirsi visit Australia, and complete their tour in New Zealand, leaving for Home by the Vancouver boat from Auckland. They will play four Saturday mulches in New Zealand, besides the mid-week matches. The West Coast Leagues reports to the council were most encouraging, and showed that the game was making solid progress. One of their teams had put up probably nn Australasian record for travelling in connection with cup fixtures. The tenm, Waluta, had travelled -ElO ml'.es to take part In four matches, and although they played good football, in spite of their performance they were ngnln in the position of runners-up ln their particular competition, a position which they had held for the past three seasons. They were very sanguine of winning the knock-nut competition for the Winghnm Cup. The attendance nt their last mutch ngnlnst Runnnga drew an attendance of ISOO patrons. They recently played a benefit match in connection with the U.S.A. appeal for funds for the Old Peoples Home, when the voluntary collection amounted to £21.

The following motion was carried :- — "That all international or inter State tours arranged by this League within the Dominion or oversens shall be under the direct control and management of the New Zealand Council, and the profits, if any. arising therefrom shall be used by the council of management for the purpose of more fully carrying into effect the objects of this council ; that any inter-provincial or other matches arranged between nfliliated centres must first be sanctioned by this league, and any representative team from any affiliated centre desiring to travel must flrst obtain permission of the New Zealand Council io do so, and shall also submit the proposed itinerary to " the council for consideration. Notice has bee., given to reopen the question of the New Zealand Club Challenge Shield. Messrs. C. Pearoe. McDonald nnd 11. Oakley were appointed New Zealand selectors.
