N.Z. HOCKEY TOUR.
VICTORY IN FIRST MATCH. SYDNEY, August 1. The Xew Zealand hockey team was accorded a civic reception by the Lord Mayor. Mr. Norton, responding, expressed the hope that the tour would ! result in useful missionary work being i achieved. If the game was established ■ in the primary schools and then in the ! secondary schools they could soon look forward to regular inter-Dominion contests. The visitors opened their tour against a fairly strong Metropolitan side in fine weather. The New Zealanders proved superior in combined efforts and defensive play, winning by 5 goals to 1, after leading at the interval by 2 goals to 1. The scorers were Boyd and Heaphy, two goals each, and Watts one. For the local team Nettleton scored.— (A. and X.Z. Cable.)
