The four prisoners who escaped from iMount Eden on June 6 before the Supreme Court to-day. They pleaded extenuating circumstances. Man named George \V. McDonald, a painter, committed to tlie Supreme Court to-day on three charges of obtaining goods by false pretences. Economic pensions, to supplement war pensions, are proposed in an amending bill introduced yesterday. The additional cost is estimated at £60,000. lAlready subscriptions exceeding £4000 have been received by the Auckland Plunket Society towards the Karitane Home fund,, which aims at £ 15,000. Flora brought 13,000 cases er orange* and 3000 cases of tomatoes from Eastern Pacific Islands to-day. About 25 per cent of the oranges arrived unfit for use, and 10 per cent of the tomatoes.
