XH THE DAVIS CUT TIE. JAPAN BEATS CANADA. (Received 11.30 a.m.) MONTREAL, July 31.
In the first of the two final singles of the Davia Cup Zenzo Shimidzu (Japan) defeated Rennie (Canada), 6—2, 6—3, The Canadian was completely outclassed. This match did not affect the round. Japan, having won the singles and doubles, cabled on Thursday and Friday last, thereby qualified for the second round in the American zone play.—(A. and N.Z.) Japan completed a clean sweep in the first round of the Davia Cup elimination tie with Canada, when Fokuda defeated Crockef after a keenly contested aeries, 6—2, 6—3, 6—2.—(A. and N.Z. CaHe.)
