Mr. and" Mrs. A. W. Parsons, of Auckland, are staying at Warner's Hotel, Christchurch.

Mr. George Xeal and Miss Howarth have returned to Auckland, after a visit to Chrietchurch.

Mrs. W. R. McKeane (Auckland) spent the week-end in New Plymouth and motored to Napier on Monday.

Mrs. W. Barton, of Featherston, is the guest of the Viscountess Jellicoe, at Government House, Wellington.

Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Davies, of t'onsonby, have just returned via Wellington i'rom a holiday tour of Bydney and Melbourne.

The committee of the Christchurch Hospital Lady Visitors' Association is organising a ball to raise funds to carry on its work, as, owing to the unusual severity of this winter, there has been.a marked increase in sickness, and therefore greater demands on the funds of the association. The hall will take place on Thursday, August 16, in the Art Gallery.

A very pleasant evening was spent at the Auckland Women's Club on, Monday night, when the club entertained Miss Harrhy (Mrs. Daley), a visitor of prominence in the musical world. The rooms were decorated with daffodils and arum lilies, and a large audience, thoroughly appreciated the tine recital given by Miss Harrhy. The artiste covered a wide ground, being an eminent composer, pianistc and singer. A bracketed group for Uμ piano—Refrain de Bereeau, GopaK, and Chopin's Nocturne in F major— wore followed by Nursery Rhymes, charmingly rendered. These were a very fascinating feature of the evening", being composed by the singer. A group of French songe followed, also several selections from Gilbert and Sullivan, and many other songs of charm. Miss Harrhy drew her recital to a close with two of Rachimonoff'e Preludes, finishing with "Requiem" —music and words her own composition. Misa Wyman also delighted the audience -with some pianoforte selections, and Mr. Wilfred Manning sang with great charm "The Arrow and the Song" and " Because." The president, Mrs. W. H. PnT,kes, made a happy speech of thanks and appreciation, after which supper was served. ENGAGEMENTS. The engagement is announced of Miss Ruble Cornwell, only daughter of Mrs. Cornwell. of Stanley Bay, and the late Mr. Henry Cornwell, to Mr. Douglas R. Conway, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. David Conway, of Bexley Heath, Kent, England.

The engagement is announced of Mrs. G. M. Njchol, daughter of Judge and Mrs. J. K. Reed, to Mr. E. H. Rhodes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rhodes, Remuera.

WEDDINGS. An evening wedding took place at St» Paul's pro-Cathedral, Wellington, when Mies Eileen Adams, daughter of Dr. C. E. Adams (Government Astronomer) and Mrs. Adams, of Oriental Bay, wag married to Mr. Arthur Fair, son of Mrs. Fair, of Wellington, and the late Mr. J. W. Fair, of Westport. There were two bridesmaids, Mien' Margery Adams, Bister of the bride, and Miss Ella Fair, sister of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Baird as beet man and Mr. Howard Adams (brother of the bride) as groomsman. A quiet wedding waa celebrated at the Mt. Albert Presbyterian Church on' Tuesday, July 17, when tMiss Jean Beattie, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. ft. M. Beattie, of Auckland was married to Dr. W. Alan Blomfleld, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Blomfield, of Takapuna.. The Key. Geo. Inglia performed the ceremony. The bride, who entered the church accompanied by her father, wore a draped gown of palest blue brocaded crepe de chine, caught up by a diamante medallion, with a train of silver tissue lined with pale blue georgette, and carried a bouquet of pale pink and cream flowers. Her veil was of blue tulle caught at either side by posies of orange blossom. The chief bridesmaid. Miss Mary Beattie, wore, lavender with gold and lavendar embroidered lace, and the other bridesmaid, Miss Isobel Chadwick, of Hamilton, was in an old gold draped frock. Both wore tulle veils caught up by flowers at either side, and carried bouquets of violets. Mr. Henry Heard acted as best man, and the groomsman was Mr. Gordon Jones. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the residence of the bride's parents, where Mrs. R. M. Beattie received her guests in a draped gown of cinnamon-coloured inarocain trimmed with fur and embroidered in irridesceirt beads. Her hat was of cinnamon with touches of kingfisher. Mrs. W. Sister Hay, who has joined the staff of the Hamilton Hospital, lias -been staying with her brother, Dr. S. 11. Hay and Mrs. Hay. Fenton Street, Rotorua. Miss Vida St. Glair, Ranolf Street, Rotorua, is on a-short visit to Auckland, and will return at the end of the week. Mrs. Duncan Steele, Eruera Street, Rotorua, left on Saturday on a short visit to Auckland. Mrs. Cur. rie, Ohinemutu, is paying a visit to Auckland. Mrs. Guy Pierce, Remuera, who has been visiting Rotorua, has returned to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Mollsop,' Bathgate House, Rotorua, left last week for Auckland, en route for the Pacific Islands. Mr. and Mrs. Carewe, Rotorua, returned to Auckland laat week from a trip to the Pacific Islands. They are making a short etay ia Auckland before returning to Rotorua. A team of the Rotorua Girls' Hockey Club will take part ia the hockey tournament in Auckland.

WAIKATO NOTES. Mrs. and Miss L. Cussen have gone to Rotorua for a few weeks' holiday. Miss Hawken of New Plymouth has been on a visit to Hamilton, staying at Grand Central. Mrs. E. Wilson has been on a short visit to Auckland. Mies T. Man tell, Wellington, is the gueat of Mrs. W. H. Tisdal), Claudelands. Miss R. Lamer, Auckland, is visiting Mrs. O. B. Wake. Mrs. A. English is spending a few days in Auckland.

Miss Jean Buekleton of Wellington is on a visit to her aunt, Mrs. W. H. Hume. Miss N. Self has been on a visit to Mrs. A. E. Manning. Dr. and Mrs. Sehvyn Graham are the guests of Mrs. W. H. Hume.

The old pirU of the Diocesan High School, resident in Hamilton and the surrounding district gave a gift afternoon to Miss Hazel Jackson, one of their rank in honour of her approaching marriage. The gatherins took place at the residonc-p of Mrs. Hammond, who kindly lent birr room for the occasion, and a very bright and happy time was spent. A delicious tea was served, then the gifts were displayed showing a choice of useful articles. Hiss B. Morris gave some vocal items and a competition was won by Misses P. Jolly and A . Brewis, who handed the prizes to |Mi«« Jackson.

I Mrsi T. Innis entertained a few friends as a farewell to Mrs. Free. The rooms looked lovely decorated wit h golden memosa anemones and asparagus ferns. Mrs. Innis received . her guests wearing a handsome frock ;of pale blue taffeta. Musical items were given by Mr. and Mrs. Lonsdale, Mr. . and Mrs. McKinnon, Mre. Soott-Higgin-son, Mrs. M. Williams, Mies McKenzie, and Messrs. .Cade, Brook and Davy. A dainty and delicious supper was ; served, aftrr which a presentation was made to Mrs. Free of a floating bowl. Mrs. Free thanked all present for their kindness towardn them. The ladies present were Mesdames Free, JM. Williams, A. Lonsdale, H. Davy, A. P. Stewart, Harty, Scott-Higgineon, j Miss Higginson, and McKenzie.

A very delightful dance was given by Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Manning recently in the Alexander Hall. Thte event was in honour of the "coming out" of their daughter Miss Wynh Manning, and no pains were spared to make it a great success. Mrs. Manning received her guests wearing a gown of black crepe de chine and long silver scarf. Miss M. Manning wore a pretty frock of primrose satin; Miss D. Manning, frock of blue and silver shot satin; Miss Wynn Manning, the debutante, wore a very dainty frock of white georgette draped with rich lace, and carried a lovely bouquet. The evening closed with hearty cheers for the host and hostess, followed by musical honours; "Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem.

A merry farewell afternoon was tendered to Mrs. Free by Mrs. Martyn Williams, who invited a few of her friend* to wish her the best of luck in her new home. The rooms rooked very pretty with lovely flowers, and a very delicious afternoon tea was served. During the afternoon eolos were given by Mesdaraea Sinclair, Arthur, Scott, Higginson, Lonsdale, Shirley and McKinnon and elocutionary items by Mesdames M. Williams, Green; ana piano iolos by Mrs. H. A. Young. During the afternoon Mrs. Williams, on behalf of those present, presented Mrs. Free with a case of 'stainless knives and a beautiful 'bouquet. Mrs. Free thanked all for their kind thoughts towards her. Amongst the guests were Mesdames A. Lonsdale, A. Arthur, G. Cooper, W. McXicol, Stewart, Free, F. Innis, C. P. Sherley, J. Harty, A. W.
