WORKERS' DWELLINGS.
CITY COUNCIL'S PROGRAMME. ANOTHER FIFTY HOUSES. The housing scheme was further considered in committee by the Crty Council lost evening. A resolution was carried approving of a plan for the sub-division for dwellings of a further area at the Western Springs property, and the erection forthwith of fifty dwellings upon a portion of the area. Tenders are to be called for in l>rick, blocks or concrete. Consideration of further workers' dwellings is to be deferred till the present programme U well advanced. It was aleo resolved that the Government be advised of the council'e proposals and that the Prime Minister be asked to remove the present advances limit, and to authorise an advance of £40,000 in sums as required to cove* the cost of fifty dwellings with roads and drainage. As the council was providing the land the Government advance would be approximately 80 per cent on each property.
