COMEDY IN COURT.
SINGER'S SILK STOCKINGS. NOT THE SIZE ORDERED. PARIS, June 22. Mademoiselle Martlie Clicnal, a wellknown Opera Comique singer, is the heroine in a comic opera lawsuit. A hosiery establishment in the Champs i Elyseea sued her to recover £10, the cost jof a parcel of stockings which the firm alleged Mdllc. Chenal ordered. The stockings were an out size, and were fitted with an clastic device to prevent bursting when used on exceptionally stout legs. Mademoiselle Marthe indignantly denied that she could ever have j ordered such goods. After hearing the ! evidence of both parties the Judge ! decided that he must personally see the I stockings fitted. The evidence of his eves convinced him tbe stockings never could be of any use to Mdlle. Chenal, and he gave a verdict in her favour.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
