HUSBAND FLOGGED.
X.X.X. "JUSTICE" -WITH DIVORCE PARTIES. They have a summary way of dealing with the supposedly guilty parties m divorce cases at Macon, Georgia. Lynwood J. Bright, of New York, was flogged by a band of men, while Mrs. Frederick Pace, co-respondent in his wife's suit, was forced, under pain of horsewhipping, to look on. The men who did the flogging are believed to be members of the Kα Klux Klan. They kidnapped the couple from Mrs. Pace's car, carried them to some woods at a lonely spot, an* theTe beat Bright almost Into Insensibility. ■Mrs. Pace was forced to look on. Bright was given 24 hours In which to leave the city, under penalty of death. Sheriff's deputies and motor-cycle police searched the highways near Macon for three hours before they came upon the couple trudging along a country road, walkIng towards Atlanta. Mrs. Pace said the men informed her that they were going to kill Bright because they resented the testimony of a negress on his behalf. "They tied my hands and they put a mask on my face," Mrs. Pace stated. "I tore the mask from my faca and saw them drag Bright from the car and throw ui-n down on the ground. They flrst tied his hands and put a gag in his mouth, then they drew out a lash or a leather strap and beat t him repeatedly over his body." "I have done no wrong," said Bright. "Possibly I made a mistake by bringing the \ negro woman Into the case. They told mc I that they were going to kill her." "I am glad there are some men In the , world, anyhow," is reported to have been the comment of Mrs. L. J. Bright. Bright obtained a divorce, but his wife . contested the proceedings, naming Mrs. . Pace as co-respondent. A charge against Mrs. Pace was reported ito be quashed when ehe made a cash settlement nifh Mrs. Bright, resulting, in i the latter withdrawing her suit for aliena- ! tion of his husband's affections.
