VETERAN'S RECORD ROUND.
IXJNDOX, June 21. The second qualifying round for the Gleneagles 1000 guineas' golf competition was played in beautiful weather,! and was notable for brilliant scores. ■Tone?, aged 52, a veteran professional of Wimbledon Park, played flawlessly, and broke the record for the course with a round in 67, going out in 35 and returning in 32. This was the best effort in his long career. Kirkwood did not live up to his form yesterday, and took 75. The scores for the socond round and the aggregates are as follows: Oke 70 and 143, Jones fi7 and 143, Ball 70 and 145, Ray 73 and 140. Kirkwood 75 and 146, Barnes 74 and 147. Havers 75 and 147. FIRST ROUND OF MATCH FLAY.
KIRKWOOD'S BRILXIANT WIN.
(Received 2.30 p.m.) LOXDOX, June 21. The first round of match play at Gleneagles was decided in brilliant weather. Kirkwood beat Oke, four up and three to play. Havers beat Butchart, the Scottish champion, one up: Barnes beat Holland, four and two; Braid beat W. Ball, four and three. The other winners were Williamson, Ockendrn. F. Ball, Ritchie, Delatorre (who is' a Spaniard), Twine, Johns, Lockhart, Gray, and McNeill.
Kirkwood played magnificently, going out in thirty-five, and coming home six holes in twenty-three.
Havers was fortunate to win a dingdong fight. He cut his drive at the seventeenth into the broom, but had a good, lie, where the ball might have been unplayable.
