EAST COAST LIGHT. The now light tower on Ohena Island, opposite Mercury Bay, has been completed and is to be lighted this evening for the first time. It should- prove a great boon to vessels using the inner passage up and down the East Coast. The light shews n. one-second flash and is obscured for five 1 seconds,

MOERAKI'S NEXT TRIP. The Union Company advise that the Moeraki is due at Melbourne to-dny from Tuesday. June 26. for Bluff. If the vensel is not delayed by cargo work at Bluff she may work there on Saturday, the 30th inst., and will clear Dunedin on Monday. July 2; Lyttelton on the 3rd. and Wellington about Wednesday, July 4, for Melbourne direct.

H. K. HALL CHARTERED. The well-known nve-masted schooner H. K. Hall, -which arrived at Lyttelton on September 22, 1921, from Newcastle, has been ehartereJ for the Maiden Island trade. Recently the vessel was docked for an extensive overhaul. She was sold during the war to Australian buyers, and sent to London with skins, after which she rettirnod to Australia and was loaded at Newcastle for Lyttelton.

THE KATOA WORKS PORT CRAIG. Another harbour that bids fair to rival Tauranga as a coastal port is Port Crais, Southland, about 40 miles west of Bluff. This port has been worked during the past week by the Union Co.'s steamer Katoa (2484 tons), -which entered the, harbour without any difficulty and anchored In deep water. By means of lighters she shipped some 600,000 feet of timber, and left there at 3 p.m. on June 16 for Dunedin. Port Craig has one of the most up-to-date sawmilling plants in the Dominion, and this is -working full time, and has a capacity of 4-5,000 feet a day. Part of the Katoa's cargo was discharged at Dunedin. and the balance is for Lyttelton and Auckland.
