GOLF AT GLENEAGLES.
KIRK.WOOD IN THE LEAD. AN ENTHUSIAST'S OFFER. LONDON, June 20. J. 11. Kirkwood, with a score of 71, 30 out and 35 home, leads the field in I the first round of the two qualifying rounds for the Gleneagles 1000-guinea golf competition. He is followed by Barnes (United States), Ray, Jaffray, and Oke, 73 each; Ross Havers, John Brews, Frostrick, and O'Neill, 7_ each; Boomer (France). Ritchie, Ball, Jewell, Twine, and Jangle (South Africa), 75 each. Among others, Braid returned a card of 76; and Duncan, who has been unwell for a few days, a card of 77. Mitchell is not competing. The "Daily Telegraph" states that a wealthy Londoner who is an enthusiastic golfer has made Kirkwodd a tempting offer to become his private professional. There is a possibility that the Aus - tralian may accept the offer when he has concluded his tour with Hagen. —(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
