WKLMXGTOX, this day. -Mr. Collins (Secretary of the Industries Deparimenii has written to Mr. Leadlc.v (president of the .Mid-Canter-bury Farmers' I'nion). who recently moved a remit asking the Crovernment to investigate Eastern markets, that the Department lias been making exhaustive incpiiries into the promotion of trade with Java, the Malay Peninsula, ami China. It is considered that this market, offers facilities lor the primary products. -Mr. Collins recently reached Auckland, and had a conference there with local bodies, at which a resoution was passed invitinjr samples OS roods ami funds for a delegation to tho Cast. Further meetings will be held with lie same object. .Mr. Collins is of opinion hat as Australia is doing good business ,vith the Kast, \ew Zealand ought to ■ *-' ible to compete if farmers will ;is=iot.
