The following official statement was issued In Wellington on Thursday : —The High Commissioner's cablegram relating to the sugar market discloses a further decline in the .Tavan sugar prices from Z'M per cwt. c.i.f. to 30 '6. wit' , I-ickages slightly lower. This represents a recession of £4 per ton since the end of April. The present abnormal demnnd, •which is largely due to the fear that a rise is imminent, is certainly not warranted by present market tendencies. CZECHO SLOVAKIAN TRADE. Representatives of Czecho-Slovaljia have been active for sonic time past in promoting trade with the Commonwealth, and latest news peems to indicate a revival of manufacturing industries in the republic. French occupation of the Ruhr has brought a wave of prosperity to the silk mills in Moravia and Bohemia, and silk ribbons formerly supplied in large quantities by Bormen arp now being produced in the Moravian and Bohemian mills. Until recently these mills were on part time owing to lack of orders, but now they are working overtime. A "Times" correspondent states that some improvement is reported in the Gnblonz inkets. beads and glass bangles to the Far East. Fresh demands are reported in the ■Minmel and felt hat trades, while the cotton mills in Eastern Moravia are doing well. Moravian shoe factories in Komeriz have resumed production, and Czech glass exporters are competing successfully with Austrian manufacturers. IMPORTATIONS OF STUD STOCK. Advice has been received by Messrs. Wright. Stephenson and Co., Ltd.. that a purchase has been made in Scotland of a young stud Ayrshire bull for export to New Zealand. This bull hns been selected for Mr. Thos. Thomson, the well-known Auckland breeder, and was bred In the famous Garclaugh herd, which produced one of the most famous Ayrshire cows of all time in Garclaugh May Mischief. This great cow was exported to the United States nnd there produced 23,8281b of milk, and 8421b of butterfat—a world's record. She is widely famous as a most economical producer—a valuable trait of the Ayrshire breed. The bull selected for Mr. Thomson claims as dam the cow May Mischief 3rd, and her sire is by the famous show bull nnd producing sire. Grandee. The May Mischief strain is still the outstanding one for production in the Garclaugh herd, and it is interesting to note that a son of MayMischief now has five two-year-old daughters whose butt Pi-fat records at that age average 4971b. Mr. Thomson is to be congratulated on his enterprise in securing this bull, and his advent will be awaited
