SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.

. rj HADFIELD ON PAERAMATTA. TRAINER FAVOURABLY IMPRESSED (Special to "Star.") WANGANUI, this day. Writing to the secretary of Hadfield'a committee in Wanganui, George Towns, who has charge of the challenger's training, thus refers to Hadfleld's opening spin on tlie Parramatta River: —"He seemed to move along very well, considering he had just finished a sea trip and been two weeks ont of a boat. I am arranging for a double-sculler who I can keep alongside and give HadSeld consistent pace. The boats arrived in good order. After I have had a few rows with Hadfield, and find out how he is shaping, I will be in a position to judge how long is required to get him fit, and will then be in a position to arrange a definite dato for the race with Paddon. You may rest assured I will do my best to get him first past the post. We may get W. Beach to umpire the race." Concluding, Towns says he wishes to thank the committee for giving him a, free hand in the training, and will do his best to earn the confidence placed in him. Hadfield and party were entertained at lunch at Bateman's Hotel, on arrival in Sydney, a number of sculling men being present, including W. Beach. Geo. Towns, Harry Floyd, and John Spencer. From all accounts, Hadfield favourably impressed the critics who saw him out on the Parramatta for his first spin or two.
