HOUSE RANSACKED.

BURGLARY IN CARLTON GORE. ROAD. OVER £50 WORTITOF JEWELLERY TAKEN. The residence of Mr. J. H. Wells, 30, Carlton Gore Road, was ransacked by a burglar on Thursday evening, and jewellery valued at over £50 and a small amount in cash was taken. Mr Wells eft his house about 8 p.m.. secreting the key of the back door in case another member of the family wished to get in before he returned. However, when he arrived home he found that the key was missing, and on gaining an entrance discovered that someone had been in the house and had turned the contents upside down in their efforts to discover articles of value. Locks were broken off and the furniture was considerably damaged. Five dress rings—a diamond and sapphire, sapphire and pearl, two diamond and pearl, and a plain gold— were taken, besides a solid gold chain and sovereign purse, a pearl and sapphire brooch, a solid gold brooch (serpent and triangle), a blue stone and pearl spray, a greenstone pendant, with fern and kiwi, and heavy gold chain and a small amount in cash."
