LOYALTY-GOD FIRST.
THE QUEEN'S ADVICE.
The Queen's views on loyalty differ materially from the views of the New Zealand authorities as expressed in the administration of the oath of allegiance, says tbe "Church Gazette." A recent statement by Her Majesty cannot be reconciled with the refusal of the Minister of Education to permit persons taking the Oath to make any reservation to the effect that allegiance to God takes precedence over every other form of allegiance. In saying fare_sj\'ll to a party of Barnardo girls who won? leaving England for Australia the Queen said:—
"Remember that life is made up of loyalty—loyalty to your friends: loyalty to things beautiful and good: loyalty to the country in which you live; loyalty to your King; and. above all, for that, holds all other loyalties together—loyalty to God."
The Queen puts loyalty to God first; but the New Zealand Government thinks differently. A teacher who wanted to say "God first" got his "walking ticket."
