DISTRIBUTION OF "TICKETS."
lAT CITY COUNCIL ELECTION. ELEVEN CHARGES PREFERRED. In bringing prosecutions against eleven persons for distributing cards bearing the names of candidates supported by certain bodies at the election of the Auckland City Council and the Mt. Eden Borough Council. Senior-sergeant Rawle stated that three of the defendants were candidates. All the cases arose out of "tickets" being handed out at polling booths, but they differed in detail, the expressions used and the text of the printed matter on the cards being dissimilar. The Senior-Sergeant quoted Dudley v. Connolly, Xew Zealand Law Reports, No. 12, and King v. Triner. to support the definition of "elector." On the question of influence on elector*, he referred Mr. J. W. Poynton. S.M.. to Rex v. Ilincklin, :: Queen's Bench, page 370. this having reference to the effect of issuing pamphlets on the-persons receiving them. The evidence in a case hoard ill the Auckland Police Court on June 20, 1019, - was similar to that to be adduced in the . present cases. i Those prosecuted were:—E. 11. Potter .
