AFRIDI OUTRAGE.
HEAVY FINES INFLICTED. DESTRUCTION OF FORTS. DELHI, May 25. In connection with the recent outrages the authorities have inflicted heavy penalties on tho Alridis occupying inGependent territory in the vicinity of Kohat, Fnss. They imposed a line of half a lakh of rupees (£3333), and ordered tho destruction of two fortified villages eoucerned in the Foulkes murder case ana tho expulsion of all outlaws. They also secured acceptance of the right of the Government to widen the road through the pass nnd erect telephone and telegraph lines from Peshawur to Kohat, and to locate three armed posts inside the pass, where they have never been before. The tribesmen are deeply impressed by the penalties and perforce accepted them. Already they have carried out the demolition of the fortified villages under the supervision of a military column.— (A. and X.Z. Cable.)
