THE WAIKATO HOSPITAL.
——— a- __. OBJECTION TO LEVY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) _lORIU_.SVI_,I__, Thursday. The Piako County Council recently alleged the apportionment of levies by the YVaikato Hospital Board was unfair, in that the towns in tlie vicinity of the hospital gained more advantages than the counties in proportion to the payments made. The Piako County's contribution had been largely increased. ■It was pointed out by a letter from the county representative on the Hospital Bon.rd that the county's capital value had increased by £175.235 during the past year, owing to the inclusion of the Tahuna Riding, this causing an increase in rates of £1-20. 'Cr. Whitechurcb maintained that the levy should be made on a population basis. The chairman said that there . houid be a more equitable basis for the levies. The expenditure should be paid out of the Consolidated Revenue. The discussion concluded without any resolution being passed.
