Mr. J. Hislop, Under-Secretary for Internal Afi'airs, returned to Wellington by last night's express.

Mr. Justice Herdman, who has been in Wellington during the past fortnight, returns to Auckland on Tuesday nest.

Bishop Averill left Auckland yesterday by train for the North, and will spend about two weeks in the Kaipara district.

Mr. and Mrs. William Brawn, of Wellington, arrived in Auckland this morning, and are staying at the Grand Hotel. They leave by the Niagara, on Tuesday next for Vancouver, on route to England.

The title of "Professor Kmeritus" has been conferred by the Board of Governors of Canterbury College upon Dr. J. Macmillan Brown, Dr. W. P. Scott, and Professor R. J. Scott.

Mr. Geo. T. Webster, Australian, New Zealand, and Straits representative of the traffic department for the port of Portland, the Commission of Public Docks, is visiting Auckland and is at the Grand Hotel.

Dr. and Mrs. Thaeker will leave Christchurch on May 1!) on their way to America and England. They will proceed first to Ran Francisco and then go across America, arriving in England about the last week of July.
