The Finance Committee announced thnt payment of the Ottoman de"bt would be required in gold. The Turkish emissaries declare that gold payment is impossible owing to Turkeys financial situation. •During a keen discussion in the Finance Committee the Turks demanded that part of the Turkish debt should be. allocated to Greece and Serbia. ■ They refused to accept a share of the debt for territories taken from Turkey. M. Yenizelos strongly pressed GreeE opposition to this demand.—A. and N.Z. ON THE SYRIAN FRONTIER. CONCENTRATION CEASES. A THREAT FROM FRANCE. LAUSANNE, Mny 3. Fiance threatened to-day to withdraw' from the Lausanne Conference unless the Turkish concentrations in Syria weru abandoned. Later it was announced that satisfaction now prevails afi the result of a conference between Isniet Pasha and General Pelle. which will contribute toward the removal of distrust between France and Turkey. Tsmet Pasha has given an assurance that the Turkish army corps directed toward Syria will be diverted elsewhere. — (A. and N.Z. Cubic.)
