INSTALLATION CEREMONY. (I'"rom Our Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE. Wednesday. The installation of the Mayor of Cambridge took place at the Council Chambers at midday, to-day, whew, after the; councillors had signed the msual declaration, the retiring iuaror (Mr. S. Lewis), who occupied the eliair, expressed pleasure that members of the old council had been returned to assist in the deliberations of the council. He extended his hearty congratulations to Mr. Priestley on Ins election. The Mayor paid a tribute to those wlio had control of borough affairs in the past, and eaid it was owing to their good work that the liorongh was now so iree from heavy liabilities and loans. It waa his intention to ask the council to sanction the securing of an independent report as to the oliice administration for the past two years, and also to get comprehensive reports as to gas, water, and sewerage services of the town. Years ago he had worked towards securing n complete report as to the water reticulation of the borough. That hud not yet been fully completed, and he would urge that this he done as soon as possible. It was commonly reported that some of the water mains were In a bad way. The inadequacy of the water supply was a big handicap to lire lighting, and lie would endeavour early for an extension of the borough waterworks. The Mayor appointed Councillor Bellas Deputy-Mayor Replying to inquiries by Mr. S. Lewis as to raising money, the chairman said that Mr. Jones and the teachers had ottered to organise a queen carnival efl'ort. provided this could he done at some convenient time He (Mr. Priestley) felt sure that for such a purpose anything from £600 to a lnuo could be raised. Other districts had recently received grants for high schools, and had raised considerable sums of money to assist the project. •

Mr. Lewis expressed pleasure at the propress already made w.tll regard to the new site mid school buildings, and n hearty vote ,;f tnaiiks was accorded the outgoing committee for their efforts in this direction.
