OVERSEAS LEAGUE.
OBJECTS DEFINED. ADDRESS BY MAJOR BAVIN. Major Cyril Bavin, a member of the General Council of the Overseas League, addressed a small but enthusiastic meeting of Overseas Club members at the X.M.C.A. rooms. Mr. Horace H. Hunt, the Auckland ■secretary, in welcoming Major Bavin, explained that whilst the club had not been so much in evidence since the war ended, there were a large number of members in the city and district, and that with some fresh enthusiasm awakened it could still be a strong factor in the -ocial life of the community. Major • Bavin placed before the members in a most convincing way the great need whjeh existed for a league which had the beliefs and lived up to the creed which the Overseas League stood for; the underlying motive of which is to provide the unity of British subject by mutual help, individual service to the Empire, the maintenance of the Empire's supremacy upon the seas and in the air, and drawing together in the bond of comradeship British people tl/oughout the world. He hoped that his visit would assist in renewing interest amongst the numerous members of the league in and around Auckland, and that they would again meet together for, some joint action. To his reeret he found that even in New Zealand 'there Were forces at work which had for their object the disintegration of the Empire, •nd he was certain that the influence which would be exerted (by the league here would be of great assistance in com■jating such evil influences, especially •Wongs t nev-comera. , A short discussion ensued, and a small , committee was appointed to work with v view to carrying out Major Bavin's ■uggestion. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to that gentleman for his address. /
