PEOPLING THE NORTH.
A VIGOROUS POLICY. (Received 12.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Senator G. F. Pearce announced to-day that the Commonwealth was inaugurating a vigoorus development policy in the Northern Territory, including improved communication by road and rail, adequate water supply on stock routes, and subsidising shipping. It was proposed to gazette a consolidated lands ordinance for the territory- which would be divided into four districts. New leases of 45 years will be made available for agricultural purposes.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
