COUNTRY RACING CLUBS.

The annual conference of the Auckland Country Racing Clubs was largely attended, every affiliated club being represented. A vote of condolence with the relatives of the late Sir W. H. Herries was carried in silence, the members standing. A resolution was carried urging the Government to pass legislation to increase the number of totalisator permits in New Zealand. The association decided to strongly recommend all affiliated clubs to adopt a 7st minimum for all handicap events tinder a mile. It was decided to urge upon the Government the desirability of reducing the heavy burden of taxation under which clubs are labouring at the present time. The question of the carriage of horses to and from meetings was discussed at length, and a motion was carried unanimously that the Government be asked to make better conditions and rates for horses. It was decided to advise clubs to support the candidature of Messrs. G. W. Yercoe and L. W. Nelson for represent- | ation on the N.Z. Racing Conference, and the Hon. E. W. Alison and Messrs. H. H.
