STEEL ORDER FROM AMERICA.
DECLINED BY BRITISH FIRM. A TARIFF REPRISAL. LONDON, March 25. Sheffield has taken a remarkable revenge on the United States for the Fordney tariff, which is directed against special British steels, by declining, an American order for 300,000 tons of steel bars. The order would have gone to Germany but for the Ruhr occupation. The firm refusing the order, wrote: "We are not prepared to hold up the orders of British customers in favour of American rivals who arc in difficulties because former manufacturers are unable to supply."—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
