Debenture issue and carries on its business in river shipping, timber and coal in a distiict which is already one of the most prolific in the Dominion, and whose trade each year shows a substantial increase. The Manager of the Company, Mr. C. Roose, Junr., started business on the Waikato River 18 years ago with one small launch and practically no capital. To-day he is the largest shareholder and Manager of a Company which owns'five river steamers, three launches, 12 barges, 75 acres of freehold land with a 15 foot seam of good coal adjacent to the river, and a valuable sawmilling business at Mercer. GOOD MANAGEMENT. Mr. Roose has entered into an Agreement as Manager of the Company for 5 years. This, together with the fact that he holds a preponderating interest in share Capital, ensures a continuity of good management. SCOPE FOR BUSINESS. The business of the Company is of a type which is essential to the welfare and growth of a district 4500 square miles in extent embracing large tracts of first and second class country which as yet is only half developed. The chief town of this district is Hamilton, but there are many other centres adjacent to the Waikato River and its tributaries which are steadily increasing as the surrounding settlement on farm lands increases. To-day the Company has more business offering than its plants can efficiently cope with and moneys are required immediately for extension.
