DUE TO FOG.

FLYING SCOTSMAN COLLISION. LONDON, Eebruary 27. A coroner's jury returned a verdict that the Flying Scotsman collision at Retford on Februarj- 13 was due to the driver of the express, owing to tho prevalance of fog, overrunning the danger signals. It recommended that automatic fog signals should be stored in signal boxes.

A signalman gave evidence that he used every endeavour to stop the express.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)

The Flying Scotsman, travelling south in a dense fog, crashed into the rear of a goods train near Retford, Nottinghamshire. The engine of the express was derailed, and the driver, fireman, and an inspector, who was travelling on the engine to watch experiments with oil fuel, were killed. The passengers were uninjured.
