MR. MORRIS RETIRING.

A POPULAR COMMISSIONER.

WELLINGTON, Monday.

The Public Service Commissioner, Mr. \T. R. Morris, will shortly retire from public service on superann\iation. It is understood that, at his own request, he will relinquish office as from the end of this month. Mr Morris was born in Dublin. A few veirs »fter leaving school he served in the accountants' bramh of the General tosh Office, Dublin, until 1874, and then dine out to Xcw Zealand, and in the une year joined the Now Zealand postal urrice. He was transferred to the Monty Order Savings Bank branch of the business in Christchurch, and vras ippointed to the position of controller iccountant in. the Savings Bank branch fe 1906. In : WO7 he was promoted to the office of assistant secretary. On the ptwing of the Public Service Act, Mr. D. Robertson was selected for the post of Public Service Commissioner, and Mr. Morris succeeded him as Secretary of the Poet »nd Telegraph Department. On the retirement of Mr. Robertson in 1020, Mr. -Jlorris was selected for the position of Chief Public Service Commissioner, wWch office he has held since that date. Mr- iWrris ie very popular throughout the tfhole Public Service. A movement H already afoot among the beads of the virious departments to suitably acknow. lidce his public services.
