PIGEON RACING.
RACE FROM TAUMARITNUI. The Northern Club's fourth young bird race was flown on Saturday in bad weather, the birds being liberated by the stationmaster at Taumarunui in steady rain, with a strong westerly wind, which proved too hard for the majority of the birds, only four being able to home on the day. Mr. A. Morton, of Grey Lynn, gained first honours with a black c. cock, after flying for 8 hours 28 minutes. Mr. N. Porter was a good third with two birds, in 8 hours 35 minutes. Appended are the velocities in yards per minute. —A. Morton's blk. c.c. Black Cloud. 500 yards, 1; F. Coster's -liiue-n. Westward Ho. 407 yards. 2; N. Porter's blue h. Psyche. 489 yards. 3. Fifty birds competed.
