Harding, of Auckland, left Xciv Zealand at a few days' notice on receipt of ne»e of the eeri-ous illness •of his mother, whom he had not seen for fifteen years, and whose home is at Worthing. He was glad to find on hw arrival that she was recovering slowly. Mr. Harding had a very pleasant trip, staying en route in America, where he was entertained by the manager of "The Publishers' Weekly," Mr. F. O. Members, the official organ of American publisher*. Mr. Harding is now- dividing his time (between 'Worthing and London, ■where he is calling on puiblisliers. and later will have several matters to bring before the Publishers' Association of London for the N.Z. Booksellers' A<eociation. for whom he is acting wdii'lst here. Wr, Hard'ing'e wife is on her way iby the Ruahine, and was to have arrived in England for Christmas, 'but unfortunately the boat was delayed and is now due on January 2nd. Messrs. J. H. and R, H. Lowry, who are studying at Jesus College," Cambridge, lhave just left for a Christmas holiday further atfield than usual. They have until now been rnoet attracted by Alpine aport. but this year they are turning their faces to the sun and have gone to the North of Africa. Christmas on wheels across the eand should ibe an attractive holiday. At the primary examination for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, of the 152 candidates, 56 were approved and 06 were rejected. The successful Xew Zealanders were! Messrs, L. A.
