TWO LOST FINGERS WORTH OVER £105.

A sum of £103 is insufficient compensation to a working girl who has lost tbe first two fingers of her left liaiul. This wus the decision given by Judge finer at Shoreditch County Court, when he hnd before him the case of a girl who lost the fingers when working ou a machine of tho London Tinplate. and Metal Stamping Company, Shoreditch. In addition to the compensation the firm had offered to take the girl back into their employment at the same rate of pay as before, fl a week. "I shall have, to consider her future," said tbe judge. "If she were 21 she rould make any unwise agreement she liked, but she Is only 17." Mr. Safe, the firm's manager, said the girl could pick up the lids of saucepans with the left hand, and the other hand would be for the operating machine. Judge Cluer: Captain Cuttle could pick things up, but I don't think you would have him In your tlu platery. (Lou<l laughter.) This £103 Is an absurd and ludicrous sura to offer her. How much would you lose two flnsers for? Here, Mr. Safe: I would not be so careless as to lose them. Counsel: Besides the £105 she would be back In her old employment. His Honor: And perhaps be dismissed in a week. All I have to consider Is whether £105 Iβ a sufficient and reasonable sum for her, and I don't think it Is.
