GOLF.
Leo Diegel, the American professional, who, with Abe Mitchell, the British playar, tied for the Southern open golf championship of America and on the decision of tlie replay was informed by the .officials that the replay was unofficialf and. therefore, not decisive, explains the situation in an interview thus:—"After the tie on tlie play-off. Mrtohell suggested to mc that we play three additional holes to decide the match. I agreed, and in view, of the fact that there were some members of the association present, and no objection was made, we did so. In this playoff Mitchell defeated mc fairly and squarely, and I, therefore, think that he is positively entitled to the championship, and 1 hope the Southern Golf Association will reverse its decision. In the event that they are unable to do so I will gladly play another play-off in Nashville with an admission charge, the entire proceeds to go to Mitchell to defray his expenses, as he is visiting thie country playing exhibition matches and h_ time, therefore, is more valuable than mine."
