RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
TRAIN GOES OYKR BANK. (By Telegrtph.— rress Associatiou.) GISBORNr;, Friday. An engine and six metal triu-ks Ifft> the line at the Motuhora quarry on Wednesday, and rolled 30 ft down a steep bank. The train was fully loaded, and was running from the quarry to the crusher. At a bend the brakes were applied to check the speed, light, drizzling rain »a- failing, hi | tlie narrow track was very greas . When the brakes wee , applied tbc wheels skidded, and produced no effect upon the speed. The jar tore one of the rails from its fastenings, ami the train left tbe track ■and plunged down the bank. The driver and fire-man left tlie engine without difficulty. The wooden portions of the trucks were damaged, but the ironwork was unharmed, and the engine "T-vaped damage have for the crushing of the cab. which struck a stump in its descent.
