NEW ZEALAND EXPORTS.
FIGURES FOR ELEVEN MONTHS. The value of the exports from Xow Zealand for the eleven months endrd November 30 amounted to £39,149,072, as compared with f41,503,748 in the corresponding period of 1921. and ,£42,483,420 in the eleven months of ! 1920. The values of the principal items I exported in the eleven months this year land last year show as under:—
Totals fiM.140.972 £41.303,7-18 • Xot jriven separately. It will be Doted that there is an abnormal increase in wool, and this arises from the fact that a considerable amount of old wool, the property of the Imperial Government, was shipped during the first i hall of the year. It will t>e gome little while yet before a fair comparison can be made of the export figures. The exports and imports for each of the eleven months show as follow:—
I Totals 139,149,972 f3l ,49S,ttt i IThe exports exceeded the imports by £7,851,348, which looks very good, says the '"Dominion," but allowance must be made for the ''dead" exports—that is, the exports of wool and some other products the property of the Imperial Government, which were paid for *l»out two years agfo, and therefore cannot be used as a set-off against imports. The imports arc beginning to show expansion. In the I first five months of the year thpy were I valued at £13,863,377. and in the past live month* at f15.3J0.152. This indicates that the liquidation of the excessive stocks imported in 1020-21 has been completed and merchants ar..- now finding it necessary to replenish stocks. Furthermore, with the general betterment in the economic conditions of the farming community the demand for material for farm improvement must expand, and this demand must be nipt. The increase in the imports is ft distinct. indication of improved conditions.
