HEAVY eXTPPUES OFFERED. POOK DEMAND FOR VEGETABLES. The city fruit and produce market was ■well stocked to-day with all the principle lines of fruit and produce. Ample quantities of plums—which were hard to sell — apricots, tomatoes, strawberries, oranges, Canadian and cooking apples being offered. Vegetables were also offered in large quantities, and there was an abundance of cucumbers. The market was almost bare of poultry, owing to the greater part of the available supplies having been absorbed last week. Messrs Turner and Growers report as follows: apples sold at from 12/ to 22/, according to condition. Kxtra quality local cooking apples brought from 10/ to 15/ per bushel caee. Very email apples sold at lower rates. Best quality apricots sold at from 5/ to 0/, smaller 3/ to 4/. Hothouse tomatoes brought from 10d to 1/2 for best quality; number two grade fetched from 8d to led. Ordinary tomatoes were sold at 8d to 9d for No. 1, and 2d to 4d for No. 2. Choice peaches ranged from 10/ to 15/ per case, poorer selling at 5/ to 6/. Sydney oranges realised 18/ to 22/6 a case, and cherriee from the same city 20/ and under, according to quality and condition. Ripe bananas brought from 30/ to 37/6 for best qtiality, and 2nd grade 15/ to 25/. Plums are very plentiful and difficult to sell at from 1/6 to 4/ per box. Gooseberries are in short supply being almost finished. Good grapes brought 2/3 to 3/ per lb. Lemons, which are in keen demand, were bought at 17/ to 22/ C per case for best graded lines, 17/ to 22/6 for medium quality and 3/ to 6/ for rough and coarse offerings. Strawberries sold freely at 9d to' 1/2 per pottle. Produce.—Best grade 6/, inferior grades lower; good onions Id to ljd per lb. Vegetables of good quality offered in very large quantities, especially cucumbers, and met with a poor demand, being disposed of cheaply. - Dairy Produce.—Fresh eggs in fair supply met with a ready sale, prices ranging from 1/6 to 1/7 per dozen for hens' eggs and l/4i to 1/6 for ducks. Only medium supplies ot farmers' butter offered, selling at from 1/2J to 1/7 per lb.
