EDUCATING THE PUBLIC.
THE SCIENTISTS' OBJECT. IM PORT ANT WELLINGTON GATHERING. Valuable results may be expected from the sixteenth meeting of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science which begins in Wellington on January 11, and continues for one week. Addresses will be delivered, papers read, discussions participated in by leading scientists, and public lectures delivered. The scope of the Association embraces many branches of knowledge, including astronomy, geology, biology, geography, historVj ethnology, anthropology engineering, architecture, sanitary-science, hygiene, mental science, education, agriculture and veterinary science. The education of the public in matters scientific is considered one of the great achievements of the Association, it being realised that the true test of its work is its ultimate usefulness to mankind. Those who wish to attend these gatherings, whicli include a number of very interesting excursions, should communicate with the local secretary. Professor D. M. Y.
