The Ponsonby Boys' Senior Cadet Brass Band, under Warrant Officer Lawn, arrived in Christchurch from Wellington this morning. The 'band at 10 o'clock paraded the city streets, and created a very favourable inrpreesion. The music ".%as good, and it was easy to see that the combination wae exceedingly well trained. At 11 o'clock the boys were entertained at morning tea, and an unofficial welcome was given to them by Mr. R. B. Owen and Councillor 'Herbert (chairman of the City Council Band and Entertainuent Committee). .Mr. Owen, o n .behalf of the Royal Musical Society, said it vras a great pleasure to welcome the band. It was hoped to establish a similar organisation in Ghristchurch, ac it was realised that music gave boys a hobby and interest in life. Mr Herbert said that both the Mayor and Deputy-Mayor were out of town, and therefore the civic reception would be given next Tuesday when the band |.can* to play in Christchurch. It spoke volumes for the people of Auckland that the boys were able t o do so well. He had heard nothing but flattering comments on their appearance in the streets of Christchurch. They had nothing to compare with the Ponsonby Boys' Band. Mr. Lawn, returning thanks, said he was pleased to hear of the proposal to organise a boys' ba-nd in Christchurcli, and he invited the hand when organised to visit Auckland.. The Ponsonby Band, which numbered thirty-nine boy-» and seven officials, went, south' "by the midday train, and will return to Christchurch on January 2, when a series of concerts wHI be given in the city and I suburbs.
