FRENCH WARSHIPS ARRIVE.
SEEKERS AFTER KNOWLEDGE. <Recclved 2.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The French battle-cruisers Jules Michelet and Victor Hugo have arrived. Admiral Gilly explained that their mission was an economic one as well as military and naval. The French authorities had requested them to ascertain the possibilities of increasing trade with the British colonies. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
