Four of a party of seven miners, six of whom belong to Waihi, returned last week-end from Mangamahoe in the Wellington district, where they had been engaged since April of last year putting in •■n oval tunnel, Bft by Bft, in connection with a big hydro-electric scheme. The party, which "originally consisted of J. Coffey, R, Honeybun, A. Green, H. Hearne (the returned men), A. Bloonrtleld, R. Mortimer and H. Yardley, of Auckland, tompleted its section of the tunnel lastWeek, the distance being 2040 ft, or about half a mile. Notwithstanding that the country penetrated was consistently hard, in fact, the hardest they as experienced miners had ever met, the men put up a lecord for speed. The germs of colds, catarrh, and influenza are having a great time.
